Mid-Columbia HFH Welcomes New Board Members MCHFH is very excited to introduce several new Board members. Serving on the Board of a nonprofit is a rewarding way to offer one’s expertise and commitment to enriching and improving the local community. There are many talents needed to build and maintain an organization — much like building and maintaining a home. Working together, the founding Board members laid the foundation to form the affiliate and generate initial community support and funding. Many of those founders are still on the Board or are serving the affiliate in other ways. New Board members are adding new skills, ideas and energy. Read more...

Farewell to Three Board Members We offer heartfelt thanks to Rick Eggers, Karl Kment, and Christine Lange, all of whom have actively served MCHFH. While they move on to new locations and new challenges in their lives, we know they remain supportive of Habitat for Humanity. Read more...

Habitat Office Has Moved
The MCHFH office has moved from Bethel Congregational
Church to the White Salmon Methodist Church on
Main Street. MCHFH thanks the Bethel congregation for
providing office space for the past several years. A growing
congregation and need for additional Sunday school
classroom space requires remodeling that will include
what was formerly the Habitat office. The White Salmon phone number is still 509-493-3720.

Family Selection Committee
At this time, MCHFH is not accepting applications. Once we receive the go-ahead to build in White Salmon or we obtain land in Hood River, we will advertise and have informational meetings for people who would like to apply for a house.

Remember - Send Donation to Mid-Columbia Habitat for Humanity!

New Building Site in White Salmon
Mid-Columbia Habitat for Humanity is now the very excited owner of a lot on Manley Street in White Salmon. Construction Committee Chair Stan Horack has been scoping out the lot and has presented preliminary ideas for construction to the Board. He will begin some initial site preparations including weed removal in preparation for building. Offers have already been received for donated site grading work, and some of the wood will be donated, graded and stored until construction begins.

Thanks to Roger and Janet Holen for making this lot available at well below market value, and to those who have already volunteered their services to get this project underway.

Once again, MCHFH meets the Challenge!
Thanks to contributions from many individuals, businesses and private foundations, we successfully met the match requirement for a second Ford Family Foundation Challenge Grant. The affiliate received $25,000 from Ford Family Foundation that can be used to build homes in Oregon. The matching funds raised by MCHFH are not restricted to use in Oregon, however, so unrestricted contributions may be used for new construction in Washington. We continue to be impressed by the consistent and generous support from all of you! Thanks!

Fundraiser to Highlight Local Wine and Art
Mid-Columbia Association of Realtors will sponsor a fundraiser this summer with proceeds to be divided between Mid-Columbia and The Dalles Habitat for Humanity affiliates. The event will be held on August 9th from 6:00 -9:00 p.m. at The Gorge White house located at 2265 Highway 35, just 4 miles south of Hood River.

Admission is $20.00 with tickets available from local realtors. There will be food, music, a speaker from the Oregon Habitat for Humanity. Like last year, there will be a silent auction. This year the event will also include a live auction and a raffle for local art and wine.

Organizers are seeking donations from local wineries only. They are asking for items that are not currently available in normal retail channels such as large format bottles (magnums, Jeroboams, etc), and older vintages of their premier varietals, short verticals (i.e., a bottle each of 2000, 2001 and 2002 Pinot Noir). They have already received commitments from five wineries for items like these. They are also seeking donations from local artists, several of whom have indicated that they will donate to this important fundraiser. They will also have a raffle for some other significant prizes. All in all, it should be a very fun evening. The goal is to raise $15,000 this year, doubling last year’s successful results. Greg Herman is the MCHFH contact for this event.
